The Cherry Tree:
An Interpretive Haiku
GRAPHIC DESIGN | TYPOGRAPHY
"The Cherry Tree” is an interpretive haiku booklet that captures the essence of Kobayashi Issa's timeless poem, "The Cherry Tree." Rooted in the principles of dynamic symmetry geometry, this project delves into the inherent forces and logical divisions within a rectangle, transcending literal interpretation to create a visually and typographically evocative sequence.

Initial Sketches
I began my design process by analyzing the haiku itself and creating several ideations on Illustrator of how I wanted to interpret each line cohesively and methodically. I began to break down the haiku line by line and considered how each line could be visually represented through several rough sketches while considering the symbolism and imagery associated with each line.
Digital Iterations
Once I felt ready to move onto creating digital compositions, I began to experiment with various layouts and compositions to find the most effective way to convey the haiku's message, carefully considering the placement of text and images and narrowing down to my final direction.
